Requirements

Driver

For ages 12 - 15. No driver's license or previous driving experience required.

Car (if using your own)

Please check Vehicle Compatibility of the track you want to drive at. This is VERY important so that there are no surprises when you get to the event. For winter events, AWD is required.

Course Format

Individual one-on-one training session.

Course Structure & What’s Included

This is a pre–young drivers course, built on the belief that such a crucial life skill should be developed early to form the right foundation.

Please note: We DO NOT prepare your teen for passing their G1, G2, or full G exams. We teach driving skills that normal driving schools don't teach you.

> Total Package Duration

5 – 6 hours
We know you live a busy life, so your teen will learn the theory remotely a couple of days beforehand and come to the track only for their driving slot.

Curriculum

The real world is more than just memorizing road signs. We actually prepare your teen for real driving by developing their fundamental driving skills, and then progressing to the car control skills they’ll need to drive confidently and safely once they earn their license.

The instructor will adjust the curriculum and speed of teaching based on the skill and progression level of your teen.

Depending on the progress we cover:

  • Core Techniques
    • Correct seating position
    • Hand-over-hand steering
    • Smooth steering, braking, throttle inputs
  • Vision
    • Where to look
    • What vision mistakes to avoid
  • Driver Development
    • Understanding vehicle dimensions
    • Learning to read, analyze, adjust to the track conditions
    • The seriousness of responsibility drivers take on when getting behind the wheel
  • Car Dynamics
    • Understanding braking distance depending on speed
    • Understanding tire grip and how it changes based on the surface

Pre-Training and Theory

Hand-over-Hand Steering Practice
1 hour, Independent

You’ll receive a video tutorial and guided exercises to practice on your own in your own car on private property if available to you before your on-track session.

Hand-over-hand steering is a core motorsport technique that delivers maximum control, precision, and safer everyday driving, especially in critical situations.

Interactive Zoom Classroom Theory
3 hours, Live or Recording

The theory will be taught online over Zoom a few days before your driving day. The session is led by the founder of Race Lab and is interactive with time for questions and discussions. This spaced-learning format (theory first, driving later) improves absorption and retention. A full recording is provided if you can’t attend live.

Next Steps

Driver Progress Report
Will arrive by email with instructor feedback and practical next steps to help your teen to keep improving in future training sessions.

Generally recommended next steps would be:

  • Retake this course to progress in the curriculum and for more practice.
  • At 16, your teen can move on to Car Control School: Fundamentals. Still no license required.

* All Race Lab events operate within our Rain Check Guarantee
