Advanced Manual
Manual Driving Training All-Season

Advanced Manual

Advanced manual transmission techniques

If you already drive stick or if you've completed Basic Manual training, this is a great course to improve your manual driving style. You will learn a bunch of different tricks and techniques to:

  • improve the smoothness and speed of your manual inputs
  • manage a standard car in difficult situation on the road
  • distinguish between city and spirited driving styles
  • and plenty of other important and cool theories and techniques

As well, if you are interested, we can give you tips on manual car mods like pedal adjustment, short shifters, and more.

The curriculum is based on our extensive experience in motorsports. We've identified the approach and progression that guarantees the highest success rate and speed of learning.

Training is one-on-one with an instructor in your own car or Race Lab's car on parking lots and public roads.

A valid driver's license is required. If you don't have a driver's license but still want to take this course, please contact us.

The Curriculum

Master the hill starts, so you can confidently tackle steep inclines without rolling backward, damaging the clutch or stalling the car.

I. Downshift as smoothly as possible without rev matching

Start working on and perfect downshifting WITH rev matching (slowly first - with an extra throttle blip, faster after - catch that RPM climb)

II. Heel-toe downshifting - when you press all three pedals at the same time!

If you’re a car enthusiast, you know that this is the coolest technique one can master for manual transmission driving. It feels and sounds so satisfying when you can nail that perfect heel-and-toe shift

But remember, when you’re driving quickly, the smoothness and precision of your heel-toe is key not just for speed, but also for safety

We will cover when it’s best and safe to shift and when not, distinguishing between normal city driving scenarios and spirited (including race track) driving

  • Intricacies of winter driving with a manual gearbox
  • Why you almost never need double clutching
  • When it’s best to downshift VS cost to slow down in gear VS coast to slow down in neutral
  • How to jump start the car (tip: it’s not in 1st gear!)
  • How to park the car in gear
  • And more

How it Works

After you complete the purchase, we will reach out to you to discuss your current driving level, your goals, and what location and date is convenient for you. Based on the information you provide and our curriculum, we will put together and send you a custom training plan.

The training will be 2 hours of one-on-one private coaching with the instructor. Depending on your skill level and progression during the training, the instructor will adjust the curriculum if needed.
